Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Jan. 26th, 2005 11:32 pmWell, today was the 26th, making it a national holiday for a most important celebration... Becc's birthday! Happy birthday Becc! :D
Ok, so since Becc's not in Australia, we call today Australia Day, for that's what it is. National holiday, honours, fireworks and all. Enjoyable quiet day, relieved that Australian of the Year went to Dr Fiona Wood, instead of yet another sportstar (I get a little cynical *waits for everyone to get over the shock* at the way we're all just meant to be sports players are our natural superiors all the time).
There's been a bit of a to-do recently over an ad for lamb on Australia Day, with a satirist's performance bringing in debate from both sides. Now, I understand it's a satire. But throwing terms like unAustralian around just to make it sound "I'm right, you're wrong, end of discussion" just gets my goat. So, today was turkey and chicken day! With Mainland cheese and Hokey Pokey icecream (managed to find a tub, yay! Anyways, they're from New Zealand) washed down with some Irn Bru (Scotland). I am such a bad little contrary Aussie ;)
( Oh my stars and garters! )
