Theatre Building Photos
Jun. 11th, 2006 11:45 pmI've been a leetle bit slack recently, so I've got a little something that's been sitting on the hard drive that might be of interest to you,
boywhocantsayno, and those with interests in old buildings and theatres - I went out with the camera and got pictures of His Maj and the old St George Hall in town.
His Majesty's Theatre,

Yeah, I'm not used to the settings on the camera yet, so when I forget to turn the flash off, it's a little bright.

This was a bit difficult to get into good position for. The corner buildings have been all boarded up almost right to the curb (grrrr - just for a blimmin fashion store), so getting a good possie was hard.
Four blocks away downHowick Hay Street, St Georges Hall, becoming part of the new extensions of the Central Law Courts.

Also in the construction theme, I was in a gap in the pavement boards on the other side of the street, since they're redeveloping the law courts on both sides at the same time.
And just around the corner (I didn't have to cross any roads at all), a somewhat later entry than the others, the 1956 built Playhouse Theatre.

In other news, I'm now on my week off (*domp-domp ohhh yeaah*). And I chose the right week to take off. Someone who shall remain unspecified declared at last week's staff meeting that there was too much tension in the air, and since appealing to our sense of our section's "principles" wasn't working, he got all fired up to have a meeting this week, after sending everyone off to think about ways to change things. Ye-es. I can so totally see this working - not. 40-50 people, there's going to be friction. And we know it's like 4 or 5 people who cause it, and won't admit to it. None of whom are from the front anyway. And yet, he's all het up about getting *everyone* in there, asking people to reconsider leave etc. Schyeah right. While the inevitable fireworks should be entertaining, I'm not looking to go to an hour or more "how we can all improve" sesh and be all asked one by one for our brilliant ideas. Ah, I so chose the right week off. :D

Date: 2006-06-12 04:13 am (UTC)(oh, and yayness for avoiding the stoopid "how can we all improve" session. Sounds like that'd be a good time to catch up on some sleep...hehehe)
Pretty buildings, too, btw. Especially the first two, they're really nice. Very clear photos as well, must be a nifty little camera you got :)
Lazy? Moi? ;)
Date: 2006-06-14 04:57 pm (UTC)The update on how my time was spent is coming, just gotta get it written (and not take naps in the afternoon )
And yes, they are. And the photos? I only uploaded those to Scrapbook at 30% of their actual size - as they're transferred from my camera, they fill the screen!

Date: 2006-06-15 04:51 am (UTC)Looking forward to your update, too :)
Oh your photos sound like mine. Mine come up SO big that they won't fit in the screen! I have to decrease them in Photoshop to 25% just so they don't take hours to load, lol.

Date: 2006-06-12 06:11 am (UTC)I do wish they wouldn't have modernized the ground floors, though. (At least, they look like they've been thoroughly overhauled.)

People like that are the cause of tensions in work environments. Don't they understand that? Nobody wants to go to these kinds of rah-rah-rah meetings.

Date: 2006-06-14 04:33 pm (UTC)Anyway, at least the lower levels of His Maj look like they're (mostly) part of the same building (although that rain cover doesn't help there). I was passing by some buildings of the same era a couple of blocks away, and was struck by how the ground levels look totally different (and in some cases in need of work), and above are these old ornate buildings.
And tell me about it - one of the first things I'll be asking (once the coast is clear ) is if himself asked people individually for their grand plans. Means well, but isn't really helping. To me, the much-vaunted Six Thinking Hats we're meant to be thinking with? I think of them as: four volumes approx. 1cm thick, A4, white, sitting on the left of the shelf at 153 containing the other de Bono books.
Friday-on again!!
Date: 2006-06-14 07:33 am (UTC)Friday is on again. It was touch and go for me for awhile but I bought some Cold and Flu tablets so they should help!
If you still wish to meet that is.

Date: 2006-06-14 03:53 pm (UTC)Hooray for feeling better, and of course I still want to meet! :D
Sorry, I had a reply to your last comment written in my head, but forgot to write it down. DUH!
Anyway, you went to Hollywood High, didn't you? Because I found out this week a great-uncle of mine was the Principal there for most of the 60s!
Oh, are we still meeting in Battye itself or the foyer/atrium/locker area dealie? If it's Battye itself, I might be in the Microfilm area with the old newspapers - bring a torch.

Date: 2006-06-15 11:45 am (UTC)Actually I went to Scarborough Senior High...does not exsist anymore. Tim Winton went there...the author.

Re: Friday-on again!!
Date: 2006-06-15 11:53 am (UTC)And ok, Scarborough... well, I knew it was one of the high schools that doesn't exist anymore. ;) (and why have Como and Northam been spared? :P)
And ooh, famous alumni... may I say "haw-haw!" to Northam for not opening until long after the Throssells grew up :D
Hmmm, wonder if Battye have the Scarborough yearbooks... ;)
