List 5 reasons why you are a dork. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a dork you are! Then pick the 5 biggest dorks you know and have them do the meme."

Top 5 reasons I'm a dork:

1. I think in quotes. Usually Simpsons quotes. And I have quotes that come to mind for most everything. Sometimes it gets in the way too, like tonight I was stuck at the cheese shelves at the shops looking at a large pack of 81 Kraft singles, and all I could think of for over a minute was Homer saying "Mmmmmm... 64 slices of American cheeeese... 64... *gulp*... 63... *gulp*..."

Best. Reason. Ever.

2. Like Rachel I've dreamed of being characters in comics/tv etc. You try explaining the future developments of the Evangelion series to the characters. Or more recently, waking up and believing I was Kitty Pryde (Excalibur uniform and all) in those moments between waking and lucidity. I have been saying I'm not a morning person, this is my brain (I assume, I've also had the image of Rachel Summers flash across in those same moments) proving it.

3. Rather large DVD collection, with tv shows (*gasp* science fiction shows at that) far outweighing the number of movies.

4. The comic collection, and related thingies - like statuettes and figures taking pride of place.

5. I'm the first "go to" guy for mundane computer things for my co-workers. Even if it's something I've never heard of or used, I still get asked. Is now a good time to mention my "what's this button do?" approach to computing? ;)

Tagging: You know my drill, anyone who wants to pick this up! :)

1. Katherine "Kitty" Pryde (aka Shadowcat)

2. Rachel Summers/Grey (aka Phoenix III/Marvel Girl III)

3. Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl I/Oracle)

4. Tara McClay

5. Susan Ivanova

6. Kira Nerys

7. Samantha Carter (especially in dress uniform)

8. Janet Fraiser

9. Lilah Morgan

10. Kaylee Frye

Tagging... anyone who's surprised by that... oh, that means no one. ;) Well, whoever wants to pick this one up and run with it, consider yourself tagged.

I think I may go into shock. Perth now has... another science fiction bookstore! *dun dun DU-U-UHN*

I thought I'd swing by Supanova to see if they had the book of essays about Firefly (since it'd only be available through importing stores). Just one slight detail - Supanova turned out not to be there anymore! Instead, a note saying under new management, and moving to Shafto Lane to re-open in August. Handy for me, since I think it will literally be right over the comic shop (also part of the Shafto Lane body corporate). Sure, it won't get quite as much walk-by traffic, but the old location was on William Street, CBD - busy street with the new train station being built directly across the road... nobody can stop to windowshop without being swept away, or pushed into traffic. Plus the store was by now too small.

So, I continued on my merry way up William Street, which is seeing a large amount of temporary-store-turnover in the block opposite where the new station is being built (that's a rant for another time). And what do I see after seeing where a science fiction bookstore no longer was but... a new science fiction bookstore! "Tim's White Dwarf somethingorother somethingorother" I think, in an old hairdresser or tattoo parlor - shows how much notice I took then. I had a quick look around, just to see what was there - including a dalek in the corner. I didn't buy anything today (sometimes I wish I didn't already *have* Cordwainer Smith's Instrumentality books, just to buy them again for the first time), but it's good to know we've got another one around.

And I think my back's finally forgiven me - today I got tired of looking at all the spare shelves lying around in the open, so squeezed them into the space behind the last bay (bend, lift, bend through other shelves, repeat, kick along boxes of endpieces that's too heavy to lift - ow). So now I'd gotten that little space back, and can put the other study carrel back there - my private little spot for morning tea and lunch, away from people researching. :) Yes, I'm misanthropic, and like to have my food alone, only to have found too often recently that the carrels are taken. Next week - shelf signs.
