One year...
Dec. 14th, 2004 08:03 pmAnd the other thing about today...
I don't believe it's already here, but it is. December 14. It's now been a year since the last time I talked to Ann. She died in January, but it's today's date that's burned into my memory.
I wish that I'd spent more time on the phone with her, not thought there's next weekend or anything like that. Last year, the next weekend my throat felt funny and I thought "Christmas!" By Christmas I'd lost my voice entirely, and didn't get it back until the new year. And I only ever got to speak to the messagebank answering service from then until I got the note from her parents.
When telling another board, I wrote:
"Back when the RDASU used to hold voicechats, I daresay that Alma'c was the one person out of all of us who kept us all talking and the conversation going the most. This was what Alma'c did, never hesitating to help someone out when she saw them in need, in life or online, at the SGC, SGA, or in the games she discovered a couple of years ago. Always positive and generous to all."
That was Ann, to whom every morning was a gift, taking pleasure from the little things (and the bigger squarky things like the galahs); and never understanding the hypercompetitive, or those who feel the need to bring others down to bring themselves up.
Missing you terribly, dearest Ann...
