A little something for those out there who have a feeling that some words are being overused these days...
The 2004 list of Banished Words has been announced!

For myself, I always found the X thing to be an annoyance, and X-treme eyeroll-worthy (I wanted to call it "Travelling to Other Planets"....) Call me a snob, but I'm not sure I could've handled buying something with X-treme in the title regularly - luckily I started reading X-Men just after the title changes...
And since the LOL seems to cover all forms of txt-spk, all I can say is YES! Definately banish all the "r u"s and all from the language or at least advertising... I wonder if there's anyone out there who agrees... ;)
So, here's a dictionary you can burn, Iliana :D

I agree you shouldn't use it offline though.

Surely not! :P
As for the txt-spk, apart from a few basic abbreviations sprinkled throughout, I've never had much of a mind for the whole conversations with letters missing from every word making the paragraph hard to read thing - and the r u or ur for "you're" has been my particular bugbear. ;)
And when I wrote that, I'd just seen the night before a bunch of ads with R U, and ads in my morning reading... forefront of mind thing :D
