"heavy, black, and pendulous, towards which they were driving."

Phew, what a week. Four days to get everything done I wanted to do before going on break. Forget that. Coworker was off sick the first three days, so I was trying to do my job and hers. Especially the part about finding documents and requesting/forwarding interlibrary loans. We had a ton of them this week! Gleeful finders of new references wanting more and more, telling coworkers with own lists. Others after stuff. And on top of that a stack of books coming in from other libraries. SWAMPED! Finally got on top of it
all with bosslady's help, but normally she'd be able to get on with the policymaking and testing out of new stuff.

My stuff, stuffed into one day, all the shelving, relabelling, binding. And then there's all the niggling little things - I call them phone calls ;) like having to continually fiddle round with the front computers due to new desks being built in the front area (and *finally* getting rid of the POS RF-mice and keyboard and back to normal cabled versions) and then again for new chairs and coffeetables.

The last day, in between more of the same, managed to get the shelving done (body still not quite ready to forgive me), so that was the most important part. Other piles of stuff have been moved dealt with, but have already been replaced with stuff for labelling/binding. And me without being able to see the "where'd all this come from, he's on leave!" reaction.

Plus, of course, the rain! Lots thereof. The Bureau have been going storm storm storm Storm Storm Storm STORMSTORMSTORM all week, but little in the way of actual storms - little bit of hail, and lots of rain. And a lot over this part of the city, according to the rainfall radar - Thursday night, and the rain front just mooved all the way along through this area.

This is one weird place - strange animal noises, unbearable stench, squelchy underfoot - just like your laundry basket at the end of the month.
East Perth has a lot of reclaimed swampland. It shows in times like this. Wellington Square has a lot of the park underwater. A few days ago I didn't really notice until starting the walk home. Cross road, reach grass - SQUELCH!

McCallum Park is trying to return to the river from which it came too - lots of lakes forming on it - lakes enough to keep the seagulls happy, at least.

The constant clouds make everything so dark so early, though. My bus this afternoon was forced to stay on the freeway, but we couldn't see any scenery/rail construction. It was so dark most of what could be seen was reflection from inside the bus, or shining on raindrops on the window.

Well, I've got my cake (must resist until Sunday ;)), got my week off, got the little clock mum forwarded to me - I think I'm ready to face the weekend and essential holiday.

There's a small bookstore with primo location on the St Georges Terrace end of London Court (The Terrace is Perth CBD's major road, London Court is a shopping arcade with all the buildings built to resemble Tudor London). Anyway, their main window directly faces the Terrace, but their "interior" window can be seen from there too (being inside the "gatehouse" part). On it? Acknowledgement that this window makes the store seem so much like a goldfish bowl, and listing the books inside as "books to read to your goldfish".
