So, I'm yet to be transferred to the back (after all the trouble they've been going to to get me there). There may be a... complication to S's recent return, and she'll probably be on carer's leave before long. If so, I stay up the front. While also doing the work I'd've been in the back (for the situation is that bad for them). We'll see. Shit of a way to get to stay though, if everything happens as predicted.

Thursday was a big forum-talk day for the library consortia (since we were made all one big happy department with the TAFEs, we got to join in their group of libraries), getting everyone they can from across the system (all the Tafes and us, subbranches etc).

I wrote this during the morning tea session (I was smart and had tea before going there, since I know it's all about the coffee for them, and I don't drink it - he says with his pathetic coke addiction )

I have to admit, I didn't handle the getting in bit very well. The theatrette is the same one we had our pre-Christmas Lunch meeting in last year (December 3rd entry) and nothing's changed - the seats are just too small and it hurt my back sitting in them. And the crowd! The room is almost-full (email said about 75 registered) - coming in while G and S went straight into the meet-and-greet and sat in the crowd, I was just "Seat - edge of row - few people - MINE!"

Too many people, too noisy. Hubbub, excited chatter - all I want to do is run. And not just because I'm imagining the metal flooring in the stairs area as deck plating in something scifi-y *is nerd*.

Got a showbag with various toys/goodies though - the notepads in here, and the ones I've collected as they've been sent by publishers with journal subs means my desk-tidy will never close again! (actually, I was writing that on a pad from one of the aforementioned publishers, with a pen sent
with some other journals - although I think that one was just dropped into the envelope by accident). And if anyone ever needs to know about public art in the city, I'm set now!

I think they should get me to do the time-bell ringing... think Homer as the Town Cryer, now *that's* bellringing!<<<

The actual content of the forum was interesting though (when I got past the "why sitting next to *me* argh! reflex) some tales from the coalface, some things yet to come. Insights into the managerial and testing side of things. I got to run away at lunch time since the venue is directly across the road from work, and I was sharing the registration with T so there'd be someone left minding the farm. We each got our own showbag though. *throws squishystressball*

Has anyone heard tell of the tales of high school students handing in essays and assignments written entirely in netspeak/text message codes? It's happening down here, too. One of the tales was of a student (newly at TAFE level) volunteer who was asked to take some minutes of a meeting. Who did. Entirely in netspeak. When asked to redo these minutes in English, she reported said "I thought I had." (scared yet, Rachel?) Maybe I'll have to take to reading the Battye Cyclopedia (which we got to keep) and start modelling my writing on the writing of the time. I'm already taking much more interest in buildings in the city, trying to see what was there then, or compare today with the photos in there ("This photo must be from where Westralia Tower is now!")

So, I've got a week's leave, and just at the right time for the summer tv which is about to start - now a chance to see what [livejournal.com profile] calliopes_pen has been telling me about (Veronica Mars, Smallville), and of course, more Futurama! :D (doesn't mention having the whole series already...)

Bah, better post this while I can... stupid storm bearing down (just once I'd like a daytime storm, no waiting til night).
