Oops, overdue update
Dec. 19th, 2005 12:26 amHee, glad to see the food tales had such a good effect on everyone ;) :D.
Allow me to follow up with a report of what I had for lunch last Saturday:
Boiled potatoes, beans and asparagus with some seasoning I don't recognise - a little bit more of a kick than I'm used to, but I couldn't stop getting that little bit more; salad fixings doing double duty as plate decoration, and a round of chicken that almost didn't need a knife, it was almost as if you only had to *think* at it and it would be cut. To polish off, fruit mince scrolls (like pies, only not).
So, that Saturday (not the one just gone, the one before) was my family's big do being done early (since others are heading off interstate). Yes, waking up on a Saturday, me. Who'da thunk it possible? ;) Just the usual trip to my aunt's place this year, combined with the take-advantage-of-the-car shopping trip (supermarkets can exist outside of a shopping centre... the northern suburbs are strange ;) - didn't get to a bookstore though). I was the only one whose party poppers managed to get streamers into the pergola though. Just a shortish lunch to fit in with other appointments. And I spent the rest of the week avoiding other parties. I don't do morning teas even normally, why would a Secret Santa be any different? (I was deeply burned by one in primary school...)
Not much else happening at the moment. Another week covering for S, learning how to use the upgraded national catalogue, catching up on other stuff and feeling like dirt when this other stuff means I can't get to more stuff so bosslady takes on the incoming wait pile. The hurrieder I am, the behinder I get. If it wasn't for outstanding requests for information I'd've done those already. As it is, I found no useful information since records from sixty years ago leave something to be desired, so I failed there, and I failed at getting the other stuff done. Add to that actually writing the letter in words that aren't just "um, I got nuttin". I mean, I don't try for the old preferred format (Departmental guides from the first half of the century directed that letters are to be concluded "I have the honour to remain, sir, your obedient servant"), but nothing seems good enough to me, even a "here is your article" email. Maybe I expect too much. Or maybe I just suck.
The construction of the new railway continues apace (probably helped by a very mild summer-so-far). It's strange in an interesting way to be able to see under the busiest part of the freeway and through to the constructionworks/parkland beyond. *will not wish for a flock of birds just to see peoples' reactions to them flying through the diggings, nope - besides, they're more interesting in the trees along Royal St where I can see them up close*.
Take the Seven Deadly Sins Quiz
Anyway, haven't been much use on the writing or commenting fronts lately - I hope everyone has a much smoother week ahead than the week just gone has been for some of you. Be well, all...
