This morning saw the next (plus one) Nexus Collector's Fair. Once again, I awoke bright and early on a Saturday, fell asleep again, then finally got up and out. This time instead of walking along the highway, I got off the bus a bit earlier to cut through some of my old stomping grounds - plus this way there was shade at least some of the time. Note to self - steal some of the kerbside trees from the first street and plant them around here. They gave good shade 20 years ago and still do - hint hint Canning council. Some of the streets look untouched in all this time, even to still having old narrow two-slab footpaths (or tunnels depending on where the trees are). One of them was the street I used to live on - it seems so narrow now. My old house is still there, but now has a front fence. I couldn't beleive how small the blocks look now.

Anyway, I got there about a half-hour after opening. For once I took the right-tables instead of straight ahead. Great idea. First table, on full display from 1982/3, Uncanny X-Men Nos 162, (163 I already had luckily), 164, 166, 168 (Rachel, this is the one with the cover of Kitty furious and emerging from a wall - you know the picture) and 169. Naturally, I snapped these up - I had the chance a couple of years ago but by the time I decided yes they were gone - $40, bargain. Two more tables, and Ecto-1, an early X-Factor and the Marvel Masterworks collecting the very first x-issues quickly followed them into my bag (sure, the Ghostbusters were a bit put out about my taking their car, but they'll survive). All in all, I spend maybe 25 minutes there, and had a very successful trip.

A quick trip into town where I saw big machines being put into place (for the new I think they're flats, might be offices at the old Palace Hotel site), totally failed to get my hair cut (barber was full), and picked up my waiting comics before heading back home - well, to the shops first off. Cadbury's chocolate icecream range has been expanded this year - peppermint and turkish delight, mmmm. Um, not in the same tub, two different new varieties.

Had a bit of a drama yesterday morning. Imagine a freeway with a walled-off bus lane in the middle. Imagine a transfer station in there. Imagine there's a shedload of roadworks going on, especially around this station. The kind where the two lanes are reduced to one. Imagine that a bus chooses to break down just at the point before the merge. Not at the platform, but at the junction, so nothing can get around. Imagine being on the first bus that can't get around it, as in, directly behind. Yes, this was my Friday morning. We were stuck for about 15 minutes while directing the buses behind to jump lanes or otherwise avoid the area. Finally they stopped a couple to let us all transfer, so the rest of the trip was hanging onto the top bars while snooping over the driver's shoulder at his controls (well, it's not as if I could see anything out the windows). Great way to start the day!

Yes, that is definitely a good one. And also the issue where Professor Xavier tells Kitty not to let Lockheed eat him if he says no about keeping the little dragon.
