Had a bit of luck today - there was a big lotto draw on the weekend, and the work lotto syndicate won a nice little sum of a System 9 ticket (don't ask me to explain the systems, I don't understand them myself). Somewhere over $6400 all up, so between us all (adding in some we already had in the kitty) we each got $279.90 :D. Anyway, the collecting and handing out of money turned into a production bigger than Ben Hur!

As things went:
- people ambushed on the way on with the news before She-Who-Has-The-Tickets arrives thanks to photocopies (Oh-early-hundred hours on a Monday - no reaction is going to come from me...)
- She-Who-Has-The-Tickets arrives, had run them through a lotto machine, NADA!
- Place explodes in a flurry of seeking whys wherefores, where's our money? Turns out Ticket-Jockey had offered to take the tickets for binning, but SWHTT decided to bring them back in case anyone wanted to see, so everything was checked - dates, numbers, yup (turns out last week's ticket had the same numbers). Luckily even if the tickets had been lost, they were registered so we'd get a cheque anyway. Except I reckon people would've exploded if they'd had to wait...
- Contact made with He-Who-Used-To-Buy-The-Tickets-But-Is-On-Leave-Now, since the registration's still in his name. He comes in, and SWHTT and HWUTBTT toddle off to the Lottery Commission HQ in Osborne Park (anything over $500 has to be claimed directly) - ok, he was more dragged away when he showed up :lol:, with helpful suggestions of getting the whole lot in $1 coins ringing in their ears :angel:
- The Hunters return with loads of cash. Some people want to see what $6400 cash looks like (all colourful and stuffed into an envelope). Yes, I was one of them, and started listening to my inner-Anya by stroking the money :lol: And then the sadness of it being taken away *sniffle*
- The money is divvied up (eventually, it had to be redone a couple of times). Naturally mine is one of the ones with four dollars in ten cent pieces :lol: Watch out vending machines! ;)
- Everyone collapses exhausted as the high-energy atmosphere dissipates... "Say! One of you guys know how to Matterson?"

Rich *hehe* full day. :)

Indeed it was!

And as for what I'm buying? Well, I picked up a box of books at Dymocks today - The Eyre Affair and sequels I'd been meaning to check out. As for the rest, I'm thinking Amazon... 8)

You should report the guy who claimed that the ticket wasn't a winner and tried to take it for himself.

Otherwise, congratulations! Now try not to spend it all in one place (unlike me - when the pool I belong to at my bridge club won something like $32000 about eight years ago, my share went to first and last month's rent on my new apartment in its entirety).

Oh, I was being (one of) the suspicious aloysius of the group when S mentioned it - but it's fairly common for newsagents to offer to chuck them out for us; and the others aren't as distrusting as I am, especially since it turned out to be the wrong week and a registered ticket (somewhere in the lines of gobbeldegook).

And thank you! And the not spending in one place already taken care of. Spent part in Dymocks, and now to see what the new Previews catalogue will say...

I gather from your comment to huntingdon above that Dymocks is a bookstore (and The Eyre Affair and its sequels are an excellent choice), but what's Previews?

And if you think I'm bad here, try the time we had to get a psych book in written by... well, Ned Flanders!

And yeah, Dymocks is one of our two big book chains. Previews is the catalogue for comic buying - it lists everything scheduled to hit the comic stores in two months time so us nerds can order up, either so the store holds issues aside for us, or getting in back-orders. And we use it as more definitive news than the usual rumours.

*giggle* Now that you say it like that, I can hear his voice in my head saying it. The thing is, though, I don't watch a lot of Simpsons - it's probably on about 50 times a week, but I always seem to be watching other things or cooking dinner when it's on.

Aha, I see. I don't know if we have anything similar - I'm not a big comics person. The last comics I bought were the first six or so issues of The Rawhide Kid, which came out about five years ago. It was an old cowboy comic from the 40s or 50s, revamped so that the main character was gay. The cover on the first issue has a rather interesting drawing of his six-shooter worn in front rather than on his hip. :) I don't know if it's still being published.
