So, today was "the first day of mi holidaze" (ok, so it would've worked better if it was handwritten kid-style). I woke up bright and early - as in, about 20 minutes later than a work day. That's early for this king of the sleep-in. I wanted to get into Perth early, and so came up with a foolishproof plan, since I know from past experience that you just do not ride the buses on this route between 8 and 9.

Anyway, fortified with a large bowl of crunchy muesli, I toddled off in the direction of town. And criminy, no matter how bad I think traffic on the freeway is at the normal time I travel, if I wait just 25-30 minutes later it's much worse. Cars almost at a standstill for as far as the eye could see from the Leach Highway overpass (of course, that's just the Cranford Ave and Parry Ave overpasses respectively).

Getting in to Perth, I attended to the first thing that needed doing last holiday - finally got my ears lowered! Talk about a weight off the mind! I then started walking to the State Library to get some more of the family history research in. I found I still had 7c left on my photocopy card from my student days. I've found a few references including a whole book on one branch of the (extended) family. Plus, since the Battye Library (which still has great views) has the legal deposit collection of WA books for historical purposes, I've already threatened Mum with finding the Governor Stirling SHS yearbook for her year.

I asked which year to be looking for, but the stupid payphone cut out just then. Don't get a lot of talk for 50c. Not that the home phone is much better. Figuring out my part of the bill for the shared line (ie, without the flexiplan on my personal line), I calculated that an hour of talk to Mum barely over 100km away as the crow flies costs the same as an hour of talk time to America! At least, what it cost two years ago, may need to check the prices again... *whistles innocently*

Oh, something I noticed in my walking. Natasha, you remember the old CineCentre Greater Union (or it was a Greater Union a decade ago, it became another Hoyts a few years ago) anyway, the place we saw Face/Off and I won that free ticket and then I got that coconut fruitroll thing caught in my throat. Anyway, Greater Union, Hoyts, no matter what name it's going by, it's gone now. Closed. No idea what'll be in it's place (what do you do with an old cinema anyway?), but it's no longer a cinema.

Anyway, eventually made it out of the city later than I expected (had to make a quick stop at the second-hand bookstore, some early Birds of Prey, yay), picked up some supplies for the next couple of days and staggered home as my lack of sleep the night before made itself known. Yay, tired on a hot day - I got home and just veged with the next part of my DVD watching *waves goodbye to 21JS's Captain Jenko*.

Oh, one thing I meant to mention last time. After getting out of town late, that meant I got home just as twilight was giving way to night - not dark yet, but the sun had definitely set. Great, in other words. Enough light to see, but not to dazzle. And to think, there's people here who want an extra hour of daylight (and heat) just because the Eastern States have daylight savings. All I can think of is "are they mad?" *hangs on to delicious darkness*

Hooray! Holidays are good! :D
How long is this one gonna last?

finally got my ears lowered!
I have to admit something here: sometimes you talk in riddles (to me anyway ;) ). So at the risk of getting laughed at, I'm just gonna ask: what exactly did you do to your ears...?

what do you do with an old cinema anyway?)
That's too bad. They closed one of my favourite old cinemas in Amsterdam a few years back. I'm still sad about it.

it means *drumroll* getting a haircut!
 I should have known that!
Cool, are you happy about the result? :D

Too bad about you having to spread your holidays across the year. Seems a bit unfair.
I know I probably shouldn't tell you this, but I'm hoping to get 3 weeks off during summer this year... :shifty:
