Dark Phoenix
Oct. 26th, 2004 09:34 amWhat a wonderful start to the day... I managed to get everything started on time this morning... only to lose half an hour trying to get yesterday's mail out of the mailbox. I'd had to abandon it there yesterday, since a swarm of bees had decided the mailbox was a nice place for a hive. I sprayed them yesterday in the hopes that'd get rid of them. Haha, WRONG! I wanted to get the junkmail out of the way at least so the house didn't look like a primo burglary target. A couple of bees flying about and crawling on that mail made me spent a goodly amount of time trying to finagle it out a little more with a stick. It looked clear, so a snatch of what I could get... BAM! 25 angry bees swirling around the box - lucky I got back in time (I'm not deathly allergic, but I am allergic). Apparently they're living on the junk mail itself (and yesterday being Monday, there was a lot of it). I got what I could and threw it out, but now there's tatters hanging out the front of the (stupidly designed narrow-mouthed concrete) box. Basically, it looks worse, made me late (so much for trying to get my flexitime back into the black - once more the balance looks like Stephen Hawking's nightmares), and I ran out of (woefully underpowered) Pea-Beu trying to get rid of them for naught.
Roll on November!
Oh, and the front page of The West Australian today has the main banner headline "Schools 'failing to teach kids values'" - what do they expect when our leaders are utterly bereft of them until they want another "ah-ha, we're on the side of angels, the others are a bunch of nazis" soundbite? Ho-hum. Another case of taking an easy shot at the public schools, despite study of religion in classes such as social studies, plus about a third having instituted their own scripture classes. But nooooo, one guilty of not acting like a wealthy private school, all guilty. *headdesk*
