Bunnies! Bunnies! It must be bunnies!

Dear diary, today Rachel made me go crazy*... (I said I'd do it :D)
Shocking as it may seem, I've been in a pattern of dvds, comics, and afternoon tv while at home loafing it up this week. Taken a couple of little breaks from this strenuous routine though, hard as that may be.
On Thursday I had planned to go into the city and get a
haircut and perhaps indulge a little retail therapy. But it was not to be. Why? Because the bus had to be 20 seconds early! Yes! The time it took to look from left to right when coming out of the park - zoom!
Instead, I just went to the shops by way of Shanks' Pony - needed at least to pick up some hot-cross-buns for Friday (the traditional kind are nicer than the choc-chip version). By some extraordinary coincidence ;) the centre had a stall with about a dozen rabbits on a big u-shaped table to say hello to. Or they were there to humanwatch. They at least seemed to take an interest - not that there'd be much else for them to do in their travelcages. The centre likes to have displays of animals from time to time - although I guess the birds a few years ago were too noisy to have again.
Saturday I was possessed of the idea to go comic-hunting again in a couple of other centres I'd missed. Luckily things were still manageable early on. But one store didn't have anything I was looking for, and the other I was five years too late, and they'd since gotten rid of their comics. I did pick up a book on the links between Li'l Johnnie and the rising right (when I'll actually get the chance to read it...) but apart from that what I mostly got from the trip was a good constitutional along the cyclepaths and parks. Nice and cool for it though.
I've seen some commentary in a couple of journals on the FL about this article about the oppressed masses of Floridian students. Wow. Writing this article, this guy pulls out all the old standbys for a rip-roaring rant against the "liberal-dominated" academia. About the only stereotype missing from the article was the "dole-bludging surfie" (the product of indoctrination, naturally). I can only assume that Mr Baxley wouldn't care less if it were leftists being "persecuted and ridiculed" by his own ilk (unless he got a part in it). Probably has a second list of students and lecturers who dare to "persecute and ridicule" by daring not to think the same things he does.
Of course, we've got our own shocking happenings over here. Two kiddies books called The rainbow cubby house and Koalas on parade are being "forced" into the NSW public schools and onto impressionable young minds - for they have stories that mention two mummies or two daddies. But fear not! Deputy PM Anderson (federal leader of the National Party) and now his NSW counterpart Stoner and Premier Carr have stepped in calling for these books to be banned from the schools! Yes, we can't be having any of that humanising stuff now *tut-tut* Gotta keep demonising like a good little minion of Howard. They may not be part of the syllabus, but they exist, and that's "brainwashing" enough. Gor, they might have a book saying single mums are ok next. *was horribly broken by having a mate who only lived with his mum*
*and it wasn't even the no tv and no beer way

Date: 2005-03-27 02:23 am (UTC)Never heard it called that before - I've always heard "shanks' mare".
Though I guess for Danny's Clone, that takes on a whole different meaning, doesn't it? :)
needed at least to pick up some hot-cross-buns for Friday (the traditional kind are nicer than the choc-chip version).
*raises eyebrow*
Chocolate chip hot cross buns?
That's just wrong! They're supposed to have raisins in them. (Or maybe it's currants, I can't remember.)
Now you're making me hungry, and I just ate two bowls of chili an hour ago. Stop it.
the centre had a stall with about a dozen rabbits on a big u-shaped table to say hello to.
Awwwww. I like bunnies. (I must - I have about 50 stuffed bunnies in my bedroom. :) ) My local supermarket had someone dressed up in a bunny suit out front today, handing out cupcakes.

*facedesk*
Stop the world. Now. I want to get off.

Date: 2005-03-27 02:21 pm (UTC)Must be the Australian way - I've always heard "Shanks' pony". Although, I admit, there was a certain attraction to using the phrase
*nods* Those, and "cherry ripe" style as in they had cherry, coconut and the occasional choc-chip. I tried those before, but not so good. Currant ones would be interesting - the traditionals had raisins in them (or was it sultanas).
Stop what? *is being good and saving what TimTams are left for tomorrow*
I'd say that qualifies as liking them. :) And lucky getting freebies handed out...
Welcome to the Clever Country! (come back Hawkie!)
Never mind actual results for the kids in their lives, there's more important things, like telling kids to drop out, or anything other than having one mummy and daddy is bad, or that teacher is a traitor.

Date: 2005-03-28 02:08 am (UTC)I'm actually not sure which is which, to be honest. They're all small, brown, wrinkly, sweet and unsatisfying in the quantities in which they're usually sold.
*is being good and saving what TimTams are left for tomorrow*
I've heard of TimTams, but have no idea what they are. I don't think we have them here. Care to enlighten me?
And lucky getting freebies handed out...
I actually didn't have one. Damn lactose intolerance... :(

Date: 2005-03-28 04:35 pm (UTC)TimTams would happen to be a certain kind of chocolate biscuit that should probably replace the kangaroo and emu as our most famous exports ;)
I don't think they're available in North America except at places like Australia-specialty shops - like this one: http://about-australia-shop.com/timtams.htm *has a chuckle about some of the slang at the bottom of the page*

Date: 2005-03-27 07:24 am (UTC)Happy Easter.
I never did have a desire to eat the hot cross buns with the chocolate chip bits in them either!!

Date: 2005-03-27 02:36 pm (UTC)The desire for the choc-chip buns was there... just the actuality didn't quite live up to the expectation...
