So today was shoppingday, to make up for not going out yesterday. I arose from the pit bright and early, almost missed the bus from not paying attention (note to self - they appear *fast* when they don't stop up the hill) and away I went. The sun was shining, galahs and cormorants were in flight, workers on the new rail line swarmed around like little fluoro-orange ants.

Arriving in the city busport, I went for my first visit to the "new" (opened just over a year ago) convention centre (easy since they're built into the same complex). I'd decided to go to a clearance sale to check out the cheap cds and books (you see what happens if I'm allowed near post-prime-time tv? - heh, nah, I knew I'd be early anyways). The centre is very big. The main foyer is built tall, you walk in and are confronted by embossed-letter signs each easily a metre high pointing out various places - and this is up the height of the wall. Of course, this foyer could seem narrower once it gets busy. And the exhibition hall - it just stretched away into the distance - and this was just the part with books and cds, there were more bits of hall each side, fenced off. Anyhow, looked, sampled, left - good thing I got in early, there were more and more people coming in as time got on.

Onwards to the main objective of the trip into town - anyone who hasn't guessed "comic shop" hasn't been paying attention. :P It's just a hop up little Mill Street, a step through Cloisters Arcade and jump over Hay Street - almost a straight line too. But as it turns out no need to hurry - new arrivals haven't arrived yet (shipping was delayed by US Labor Day). I just picked up a trade I'd been sorta-thinking of getting (Catwoman: Wild Ride - helps keep CFT in character ) - had to look twice at the shelves before I saw it, then wondered how I could've missed it - I guess I was distracted by the lowest shelves having been cleared. At the counter, the guy mentioned that the back of the room (ie those shelves) had been flooded out earlier in the week! A water main nearby burst, and being a basement store, a nice half-foot puddle collected before they could get rid of it.

A quick flight down the terrace saw me just catching a bus out to Carousel (literally - I didn't want to spend a half-hour waiting, so flight was needed) to build up the summer wardrobe a bit more and just a break from shopping at Southlands. On the way the bus passed the old La Plaza in Bentley (no idea what it's called now) - I got my first computer from the Tandy there - I can't believe it's 15 years ago now. And yet I can still feel that anticipation scanning that wall of games in plain colour-paper wrappers (for which I had to get an external drive that handled 5ΒΌ inch disks) and the drive home in the ute. Anyway, got to Carousel, picked up some more of these shirts (test-drove one today, am happy - and it's longer than I'd hoped). I had a brief look in Dymocks for that Planet Simpson book, but no joy, plus everything was so crowded. I decided to just get my shopping done and bail. On the next bus. With 25 minutes to fight through the croud of a wing and a half of the centre (Carousel's main hallways are shaped kind of like a capital L with a heel, I was halfway down the horizontal, I needed to be at the top of the vertical), get my stuff through the checkouts and back to the stop (near the corner). Just made it too. I didn't want to stay too long in the crowd, and it let me zip past the samplebooths and stick to the basics. Was given a free lolly by a passing clown though.

Aye Carumba! The tv classification-ratings thing is going overboard. The program which started after the lotto numbers were drawn (ie 6.30pm)? We were warned is rated PG and contains mild violence, drug references and adult themes. Yes. Because retro-cop-drama *Heartbeat* is *really* going to corrupt our impressionable youth!!! *facepalm*

Ouch. What a waste of good comics. (My first thought really was: Not the books!)
